What are those?! 👀
Last week’s post discussed the importance of drying your compressed air and pictured a regenerative air dryer (manufactured by CEA!).
The dryer’s familiar ‘twin towers’ are filled with small white desiccant beads (activated alumina in this example). As compressed air passes through the highly porous spheres, they draw in and retain any moisture, producing dry air at the tower’s outlet.
While tower one is on active dryer duty, tower two regenerates by passing a portion of the ‘just dried’ air through its saturated desiccant (pulling moisture away and out). After some time, the airflow reverses, and the desiccant beads keep on drying :)
